The Denver Broncos 2011 team is going to undergo a few changes now that their new Vice President of Football Operations (John Elway) has teamed up with John Fox who is the head coach of the team. Elway is a former great and his presence should instill something new in the team. Last season was not the best for the Broncos whose defense let them down miserably.
It seems that the defensive positions will be in need of an upgrade. The trouble is that this aspect has not been given serious thought since the season that ended in 1997. Tim Tebow and Kyle Orton will compete for the starting quarterback position.
Things are not so rosy when you look at the secondary which also is in need of a major upgrade. Here, the management will do well to pick someone like Patrick Peterson from LSU. In addition, there is need to fill some spots for cornerback as well as safety.
As for the offense, there is need for the players to understand that they can give their best only if they get suitable assistance from the inner line. It is up to the head coach to decide whether the current players in the interior line actually measure up or whether there is need to draft in a few new face. Should players like Laurence Maroney and Correll Buckhalter stay or should they be replaced? This is another question that the management has to answer.
Even the tight end position needs to be given a second look. Probably, adding a new face to fill this position will help to improve the performance of the team in the 2011 season. At the same time, there is a very slim chance that the Denver Broncos 2011 team will be with their best linebacker. Many believe that the Broncos will be searching for a new defensive lineman and that this position could be filled by the second overall pick.
The Broncos certainly messed things up defensively in the 2010 season and allowed the 7th most number of yards through the air and the 2nd most number of yards on the ground. Worse still, they recorded the lowest number of sacks in the entire league. The addition of someone like Da Quan Bowers would certainly help to improve the number of sacks.
Adding players such as Nick Fairley or Marcell Dareus could strengthen up the run defense. Von Miller from Texas A&M could be a great choice and could help to improve the Denver Broncos 2011 performance. Miller could team up with Elvis Dumervil and help in resurrecting pass rushes. In fact, Miller is renowned for his ability to pass rush and he is also very speedy and agile as well.
His ability to help receivers out of the backfield would be a major plus. Finally, there seems to be renewed optimism about the 2011 season. Hopefully they can avoid a lockout and NFL action will resume and the Broncos can compete to regain their competitiveness in 2011.
