VIZIO P602ui-B3 60-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED HDTV

User Reviews

By AmazonMan
I have purchased the P70 version and now that I had a chance to use it here are some thoughts.

As previous reviewers have stated it is a great TV for the money. I gave it 5 stars since there is nothing on the market currently that can compete value wise. In truth it should probably be 4.5 but there is no option for it. No, this TV will not change your life, it is not as good as OLED but it comes close for thousands of dollars less. If you are in the market for a new TV; and you want to go BIGer....and can't justify an OLED TV, this is it.

I will skip all the likes and only mention things I didn't appreciate so far.

1. TV needs to be professionally calibrated out of the box. All Included settings are either too red, yellow/brown...soap operish. There are some professional calibrators out there that have started to post their custom settings for the P series in various forums. I have included one by a professional named Z-Mad posted on 'AVS Forum' for the p70 at the bottom of this review. Over all p-series seems to suffer a bit from Red over-saturation that is hard to eliminate without some sacrifice in other areas.

2. Remote is almost great and that's why it's a bit frustrating. Why does only one side (keyboard side) light up? Am I missing something? I use my phone flashlight to operate the TV remote at times. Not the most ideal design choice.

3. Screen is semi-reflective. I watch mostly in the evenings so it doesn't bother me but If you planning on watching TV during the day in a bright room - get some shades.

4. The labeling on the back is confusing. A lot of people connect their TV to an AV Receiver and report no sound. The confusion comes from the fact that there is a HDMI port on a side of the TV that is labeled 4k 60hz BEST. One could assume that this is where you need to connect the HDMI cable but in order for the sound to work with your Receiver you need to plug the cable to the HDMI ARC which is located under the TV or use a an optical cable instead.

5. (Updated) Couple strange bugs happened since. I presume it's software based and can be addressed by Vizio by an update to their firmware so no change in rating for now:
a) During streaming of KonTiki on Netflix the picture started to stutter. Frames started to skip every few seconds. The only thing that could fix it was to restart the TV which fixed the problem. This is an ongoing issue, it happened 3 different times now with various movies. Best way to describe it: imagine your laptop slowing down because you haven't cleared the cash in a while and/or running too many programs in the background.
d) When the sound is being pumped through my AV receiver sometimes during a movie it will switch to TV speakers all of the sudden for few seconds and than go back to the surround sound. Very strange because it happens about 1 and sometimes 2 times per movie.

Final thought; earlier I have said that this is a great TV for someone wanting to go bigger without paying the premium price for an OLED TV. By bigger I mean MINIMUM 60" preferably 65"-70" otherwise all the 4k benefits are irrelevant at best and you are wasting your money. Save that money and buy yourself a 1080p instead. I did multiple side by side comparisons and 70" is where I and others started to see the benefits of 4k at about 8ft away seating distance. Also that was under perfect conditions with the actual 4k content. Don't be fooled by slow moving demos where nature or carefully staged imagery is shown. Real test is fast moving action of movies presented in actual 4k. Even 4k shows streamed from Netflix like `Black List' look only great when character is seating, walking etc..the moment there are significant spikes in movement 4k benefits disappear and you start to notice jaggedness around objects that are in motion. To be fair this is an issue with almost all TVs not just Vizio P series.
